Fundraising Campaign Critical to Providing Much Needed Support to Girl Scouts and Their Families

Boston, MA – September 3, 2020 – Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (GSEMA) today announced the launch of the “Help Us Help Our Girls” fundraising campaign. Since the onslaught of COVID-19, the organization has been forced to cancel summer camp and all in-person activities and transition to remote programming. This unprecedented loss of regular, in-person support and engagement has meant a significant impact on revenue. This new campaign aims to generate the funds that will allow the organization to continue to provide remote support, services and programming to all its members at a time they are needed most.

“The services that we provide as a non-profit organization are so important for thousands of girls and their families,” said Caitriona Taylor, CEO, GSEMA. “Having access to caring adults and peer connections through our remote programs, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic when social interactions have been severely reduced, has been shown to positively impact girls’ social, emotional, and mental well-being in a major way.”

As the fall approaches and schools release plans for education structures that lean heavily on remote learning, the need for support beyond school intensifies. Girl Scout families have relied on GSEMA programs as a vital piece of their girls’ growth and care. As donations and revenue wanes, so does the ability of GSEMA to continue to provide the services that mean so much to the educational and emotional development of girls, especially in low-income areas where support is critical to success.

“We’re not going anywhere,” continued Taylor. “GSEMA will always be here to serve girls no matter what the future holds, but we are asking our community to spread the word and to give whatever amount is doable to help us help our girls in this difficult time.”
