International Medical Aid (IMA) has announced the completion of its Summer 2022 program and opened applications for the Winter/Summer 2023 program. The highly competitive medical internship takes candidates on an extensive and immersive learning program that exposes students to various areas of medicine.
The just concluded summer 2022 medical internship program marked one of the largest and most competitive classes of interns. The summer 2022 classes were held in IMA’s flagship site in Mombasa, Kenya, one of the locations within East Africa where IMA has operated since 2012. This learning and travel adventure attracted thousands of applicants across 17 countries and 142 institutions. International Medical Aid is committed to seeing this spirit carry on to upcoming programs.
The summer program featured various student cohorts, with programs running between 2 weeks and 8 weeks. IMA has expressed its delight in the success of the summer 2022 program that featured conversations and lectures with physicians, patient interaction, community outreach, cultural exchanges, and other lessons and experiences to help interns build themselves.
The primary goal in establishing these programs is to provide medical care to areas of the world that need it. These pre-clinical internships take students to parts of Africa, South America, and the Caribbean. IMA shares that the impact of the program is evident in every cohort. At the end of their healthcare internships, students are more confident and have a wealth of knowledge and practical skills.
The many standout students have shared their experiences, citing the tremendous growth they experienced over the course of their program. Students have shared they enjoyed the varied elements of the program, including the global health lectures, physician-led orientations, research studies, and clinical mentorship. Among students’ favorites are the weekly cultural treks and the cultural exposure that presents opportunities for adventure and exploration in their downtime.
At the conclusion of the summer 2022 program, International Medical Aid revealed the dates and application requirements for the Fall and Winter 2022/2023 and Summer 2023 programs. Application details are available on IMA’s website.
